Why NASA’s 50th is about More than Space

On July 29, 1958 our nation began to explore our world and the universe in ways we could have only dreamed at the time. It is a misconception to think that the most significant achievements of NASA are only related to outer space. Constant out-of-the-box research has led to new discoveries and advancements in technology that shape our modern world.

To observe the contributions NASA has made to society, they have created a website dedicated to just their role in shaping the cornerstone of travel today – aeronautics. Everything from glass cockpits to air traffic management, NASA had a hand in its creation. They also helped create icing detection, develop the use of composite materials, and established the practice of runway grooves. So, the next time your package is delivered by airmail or if you take a flight out to a nearby city, remember how those space guys and gals made it all possible.
